Sanguinaria canadensis

Sanguinaria canadensis or 'Bloodroot Plant' are a woodland plant with attractive flowers and foliage during early spring.

Sanguinaria canadensis is found in woodland areas from North Dakota right through to Florida.

Given the name 'Bloodroot' as when cut the roots are a bright red. Flowers are white, sometimes pink, with yellow stamens, not overly long lasting, however foliage is attractive.

Flowers are followed by small seed heads.


Easy by division of established clumps in early spring as new growth commences.
